SUA Horticultural Demonstration Facility

Summary

This is a commercial farm establish at the SUA Horticulture Unit which is aiming at generating the revenues and also used as a demonstration and training facility to SUA students, farmers and extension workers. The HDF is run by three partners including SUA itself, Tanzania Horticultural Association (TAHA), Tanzania Agricultural Productivity Program (TAPP) and iAGRI. The facility is installed with drip irrigation kits and the process of securing a sustainable water source by constructing a water reservoir is now at its final stage. iAGRI is supporting the Facility Project Leader and the Farm manger for a duration of one year and is also supporting the renovation of the building which will serve as a shop for selling the SUA-HDF produce.

Current Status

The Facility is now up and running and it is on its second production cycle.

Stage 1 – Conversations That Matter

The three partners named SUA, TAHA and TAPP including iAGRI seated together to discuss on the possibility of establishing a horticultural training center at SUA.After that conversion SUA and TAHA started to prepare the MOU.

The partners seated together and developed the Partnership Framework Agreement (PFA) document.

Stage 2 – Ways That Work

The partners signed the MOU and facility has established.

From the first production cycle, the challenges faced provided a room for what should be done in order to improve the facility.The HDF is now following new recommendation in terms of planing of the production cycles,field management, training activities, financial management and marketing strategies. All the recommendation put forward will now be accommodated in the future production cycle.
