iAGRI attended the Eastern African Grain Council (EAGC) Membership Meeting in Dar es Salaam on December 11, 2015. The EAGC is comprised of core members including farmers, traders and processors that focus on increasing trade, improving marketing information systems, advocacy and policy and supporting capacity building. The EAGC brings together stakeholders from 10 countries: Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, DRC, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Zambia and Malawi. The EAGC acts as a “voice of the grain sector” and connects multiple stakeholders to discuss key barriers and constraints to trade and international competitiveness.
Members represented at the meeting included the Rural Urban Development Initiative (RUDI), EcoBank and Litenga Holding. Maria Mullei, Innovation Portfolio Manager and Michelle DeFreese, Partnerships and Program Manager represented iAGRI. Dr. John Msuye, Prof. of Nutrition and Development Economics attended on behalf of Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA). The partnership with the EAGC was initiated to facilitate interaction between academia and enterprise and to create new linkages with industries capable of attracting SUA graduates and iAGRI-funded students.
