The November Monthly Leadership Forum (MLF) took place at Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) focusing on strategic planning and organizational restructuring. During the forum senior leaders at SUA including Gerald Monela, Vice Chancellor, Yonika Ngaga, Deputy Vice Chancellor, and Susan Nchimbi-Msolla, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture Amon Mattee, Capacity Building Advisor at iAGRI and Associate Professor in the Department of Agricultural Education and Extension at SUA and John Massoy of Kilimanjaro International Consulting led the group in discussions and presentations on processes to implement effective strategic planning. John Massoy of Kilimanjaro International stated, “Without planning, you cannot expect to have a meaningful transformation of an organization.”
Participants discussed opportunities for the strategic planning of improved services and opportunities for greater accountability and engagement in strategic planning processes for faculties and departments that are in line with the vision and mission of the SUA.
Strategic planning requires an efficient use of resources in any organization. Having a plan assists organizations in setting out the priorities on what they want to achieve within a given timeframe. Through the effective application of strategic planning, iAGRI aims to work collaboratively with SUA leadership to involve stakeholders in aligning the short-term and intermediate activities with the long-term mission and vision of SUA. By investing in strategic planning processes, SUA will be able to better prepare students to meet the challenges of today’s competitive market.
The Monthly Leadership Forum series was initiated in March of 2014 and is coordinated by Asia Barnabas, Program Manager of Leadership Development at iAGRI. For more information on the MLF, visit our website here.
